The dawn of a new decade at Red Hill…

Ty Jones requested a “cattle looking” trip to the South for his 2019 fall break. Ty and his granddad, Gordon, visited herds in Alabama and Florida. After returning from the trip, both Ty and Gordon were anxious to describe a herd bull they had found at BJR Summerford Charolais Farm. After studying about the bull, his pedigree and his EPD profile, the decision was made to try to purchase the bull from the Summerfords. The bull was purchased and is now in the pasture breeding Ty’s Charolais cows.

We are simply elated to have found a Charolais bull with such an unusually ideal phenotype and a genetic profile that would be difficult to match in any breed. New Hank is a balanced, structurally correct bull that literally glides across the pasture as he searches for cows in heat. He has thick, perfectly shaped feet and his rear feet fall right into the tracks left by the front feet as he walks. Gordon says he is one of the most structurally correct animals he has observed of any species. Hank has an expressively shaped top and he always moves with his feet “on the corners”.

Hank has a very tight sheath, perfectly shaped large testicles, and he is an excellent semen producer. Hank has a short slick hair coat on his body, but he shows tremendous secondary sexual characteristics with thick curly hair on his head and neck. He also has tremendous libido as he continuously moves from cow to cow in search of one in heat.

Hank’s combination of calving ease, growth, marbling, ribeye area and milk make him unique in the Charolais breed. His Terminal Sire Index ranks him in the top 5% of the breed.

Hank’s dam, 1148, is a unique cow in the Summerford herd. She has a perfect reproductive record. In addition, she has an almost ideal udder with small teats and excellent udder support.

Hank has an excellent disposition, and he is homozygous polled.
